Our sea lion diving experience is designed for certified divers who want to explore the underwater landscapes of La Paz while encountering playful sea lions, tropical fish and other marine life of the Sea of Cortez.

The exact dive sites are selected according to ocean conditions, weather, diver experience and local operating conditions.

Diving with Sea Lions in La Paz

La Paz is one of the best-known destinations in Baja California Sur for encounters with California sea lions.

Sites such as Los Islotes and other rocky areas around the Espíritu Santo archipelago offer underwater formations, schools of fish and opportunities to observe sea lions in their natural environment.

Sea lion encounters depend on natural animal behavior, season, ocean conditions and site availability and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Certification Requirements

Open Water certification or equivalent is required for this experience.

This tour is intended for certified scuba divers.

Depending on the dive site, season and ocean conditions, marine-life encounters may include:

Los Islotes Sea Lion Colony

Los Islotes is one of the most recognized sea lion diving areas near La Paz.

The site is formed by rocky islets and underwater formations that provide habitat for California sea lions and many species of reef fish.

Maximum depth: approximately 18 meters
Recommended certification: Open Water Diver or equivalent
Location: near Isla Partida / Espíritu Santo area

The underwater landscape can include rocky walls, tunnels and swim-throughs, depending on the selected dive profile and conditions.

Small-Group Sea Lion Diving

We operate our La Paz diving experiences in small groups whenever possible.

This allows the guide to adapt the dive plan to the experience level of the divers and to the conditions of the day.

Typical group size: 1–4 divers
Private diving: available upon request and availability
