A Day of Diving in Socorro and Revillagigedo Islands by Chucho

Hola, amigos! It’s Jesús Guzmán – Chucho, coming to you from the heart of the ocean, where the giants swim and the sea whispers ancient tales. Today, I’m taking you with me on an unforgettable journey to San Benedicto, one of the magical islands of the Revillagigedo Archipelago. Vámonos! Ko’ox!

Our day started before the sun kissed the horizon. Still dark outside, my team and I began preparing our gear with excitement buzzing in the air. A quick café and a bite at 6 am, and we were ready. As the first light of day broke, we geared up and dove into the blue.

Dive into the Blue – 7 am

Ah, amigos, what a dive it was! Imagine floating in crystal waters, surrounded by the ocean’s majesty. We were greeted by the graceful dance of giant mantas, their wings gently stirring the water as they glided past us. But the spectacle didn’t stop there. A school of more than 50 hammerheads swam by, some curious enough to come close, a sight to behold!

The ocean kept gifting us with wonders – Galapagos sharks at the cleaning station, playful baby silver tips, and even a few white tip sharks.

The big eye jacks and giant tuna were like shooting stars in the water, fast and fleeting. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, a pod of dolphins decided to join the fiesta, dancing around us for a magical 5 minutes.

The Magic Below

Each creature, from the silver tips to the hammerheads, shared a piece of their world with us, leaving us in awe. It’s dives like these that remind me why I do what I do. The ocean is not just water; it’s a living, breathing entity, full of life and stories waiting to be told.

Reflections on the Surface

Back on the boat, we couldn’t stop talking about what we’d seen. Sharing our stories and experiences, it was clear – this dive was one for the books. For me, after thousands of dives around the world, San Benedicto stands out as a treasure chest of the ocean, a place where the giants roam free and the spirit of adventure is alive.

This dive was not just an adventure; it was a reminder of the incredible beauty our planet has to offer and the importance of protecting it. As we sailed back, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of gratitude and responsibility – to share these stories and to ensure that these wonders remain for generations to come.

Hasta la próxima

So, amigos, as we say goodbye to San Benedicto, remember, the ocean is a world of its own, full of mystery and beauty. Let’s take care of it, cherish it, and continue to explore its depths with respect and wonder.

Gracias for joining me on this journey. Until next time, keep the spirit of adventure alive and the ocean close to your heart. ¡Hasta la próxima!
